Overview of Bumdra Trek

The Bumdra Trek is one of Bhutan’s most rewarding short trekking adventures. It combines breathtaking Himalayan landscapes, ancient Buddhist heritage, and an unforgettable wilderness camping experience.

Perfect for travelers with limited time, this 6-day Bhutan tour includes 3 days of trekking, featuring a scenic hike to the sacred Bumdra Monastery (3,800 m), a panoramic ridge hike, and a memorable descent to the world-famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Paro Taktsang).

The Bhutan Bumdra Trek is widely regarded as one of the finest short treks in Bhutan. The journey begins with cultural sightseeing in Paro and Thimphu, introducing you to Bhutan’s ancient monasteries, impressive dzongs, and vibrant local traditions before heading into the mountains.

The trekking portion starts near Sangchen Chokhor Buddhist College, where the trail climbs through peaceful pine and rhododendron forests to the spectacular Bumdra Monastery, perched high above the Paro Valley.

At an altitude of 3,800 meters (12,467 feet), the monastery offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayan peaks, rolling valleys, and sacred landscapes.

An overnight stay at a fully supported campsite near the monastery allows you to experience Bhutan’s tranquil mountain wilderness under a sky filled with stars. One of the highlights of the trek is the scenic descent to Tiger’s Nest Monastery, Bhutan’s most iconic landmark, following a peaceful mountain trail that few visitors experience.

Unlike the traditional day hike from Paro, this route provides a distinctive view of the monastery while passing through pristine forests, ancient meditation caves, and spectacular viewpoints.

With moderate daily walking, well-supported camping, experienced local guides, and stunning natural scenery, the Bumdra Trek is ideal for beginners, nature lovers, photographers, families, couples, and anyone seeking an authentic Himalayan adventure without committing to a long or demanding expedition.

Whether you’re exploring Bhutan for the first time or looking for a unique trekking experience, the Bumdra Trek offers an unforgettable journey through the heart of the Land of the Thunder Dragon.
